US Army Soldier Sentenced to 23 Years for Killing Pregnant Wife: The Tragic Case of Pfc. Dewayne Johnson II

A soldier in the US Army has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for killing his pregnant wife. Pfc. Dewayne Johnson II admitted to hitting his wife with a machete during an argument, causing her death. He then dismembered her body and disposed of it in the trash. Johnson pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, obstruction of justice, and providing false statements. The incident occurred at the Schofield Barracks military base in Hawaii, where the couple lived. Mischa Johnson, who was 19 years old and six months pregnant, went missing on July 12, 2024, and her body has never been found.

Johnson confessed to the crime in a military courtroom, stating that he acted impulsively after his wife made hurtful remarks about their unborn child. He expressed remorse for his actions and acknowledged that he should not have taken her life. Johnson used a chainsaw to dismember his wife's body and disposed of the remains in garbage bags, which he then placed in a dumpster on the military base. He reported his wife missing over two weeks after her death and participated in search efforts before being charged with her murder.

Prosecutors sought the maximum sentence for Johnson, who will be demoted to private, lose pay and allowances, and receive a dishonorable discharge. He will serve his sentence at a military prison in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Mischa Johnson's family expressed shock and pain over the tragic events, focusing on cherishing happy memories of her rather than dwelling on the gruesome details of her death. Army prosecutor Lt. Col. Nicholas Hurd expressed hope that the legal proceedings would bring some closure and healing to the family and loved ones of the victim.
