Titan: The OceanGate Disaster - Uncovering the Tragic Events of the Ill-Fated Submersible Expedition
A new Netflix documentary titled "Titan: The OceanGate Disaster" sheds light on the tragic events surrounding the June 2023 Titan submersible expedition to the Titanic wreck. The documentary reveals that the submersible imploded, resulting in the loss of all five crew members on board. Chief submersible pilot David Lochridge had raised concerns about the safety of the submersible's design to the company's CEO, but was ultimately fired for doing so. Lochridge had expressed his worries about the carbon fiber design of the submersible, which he believed was not suitable for deep dives. Despite his efforts to raise awareness through a federal whistleblower complaint and lawsuit, the submersible met a catastrophic end on June 18, disappearing due to a sudden implosion. The tragedy claimed the lives of OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, deep-sea explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet, British tycoon Hamish Harding, and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman. OceanGate expressed its condolences to the families affected by the disaster.
