Stepmother Arrested for Endangering Child in Facebook Live Shooting Incident

A father reported that his 2-year-old daughter was present in the back seat of a car during a shooting incident that was live-streamed on Facebook, as per Tennessee law enforcement. The 47-year-old stepmother of the girl is facing charges of child endangerment and reckless endangerment for discharging a firearm from a vehicle, according to court records in Shelby County. To protect the child's identity, the woman's name is not disclosed by McClatchy News.

The Memphis Police Department received a report of a shooting at an apartment complex on May 18 involving a white Ford Fusion and two individuals, based on an affidavit of complaint. The father informed investigators that his child's stepmother was captured on Facebook Live with his daughter in the back seat during a shootout, as detailed in the police report. He identified her as the wife of his children's mother and mentioned that she drove a white Ford Fusion, with her niece residing at the apartment complex where the incident occurred.

Law enforcement officers viewed the Facebook Live footage, which depicted the woman firing shots from her vehicle with a child in the back seat while being targeted by gunfire from another individual. Surveillance video from the apartment complex revealed the white Ford Fusion leaving the premises, followed by the woman running, and then returning with two men firing shots at the vehicle, according to the police.

The woman was taken into custody and booked at the Shelby County jail on June 4, as indicated by records. The incident highlights the serious nature of the charges brought against the stepmother for endangering the child's safety and engaging in reckless behavior during the shootout. Such incidents underscore the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of children in all circumstances.
