Escaped Arkansas Police Chief Captured: The Dramatic Recapture of Grant Hardin

An escaped former Arkansas police chief, Grant Hardin, who was serving time for murder and rape, has been recaptured after nearly two weeks on the run. Hardin, 56, was apprehended by law enforcement officials approximately 1.5 miles from the prison he had escaped from in northern Arkansas. He had escaped by impersonating a corrections officer and walking through a sally port pulling a cart. Hardin had pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was also convicted of rape in 1997.
During the search for Hardin, helicopters, drones, and K9 officers were deployed, and a U.S. Border Patrol tactical unit from Texas assisted in the manhunt. The FBI and U.S. Marshals offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to his capture. Residents in Izard County were urged to stay vigilant and secure their homes and vehicles as authorities feared for public safety.
Nathan Smith, the former Benton County prosecutor who helped convict Hardin, described him as a "sociopath." The intense manhunt for Hardin ended with his recapture, bringing relief to the community and law enforcement agencies involved in the search.
