Elite Universities Rally Behind Harvard in Legal Battle Against Trump Administration

Eighteen prestigious colleges and universities, including most Ivy League institutions, are showing their support for Harvard University by seeking to file a friend-of-the-court brief in its legal battle with President Donald Trump regarding the enrollment of foreign students. The schools backing Harvard in this matter include Yale University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Pittsburgh, and others, as reported by Politico. Columbia University, however, is not part of this coalition due to previous conflicts with the Trump administration. A federal judge recently blocked Trump's proclamation that aimed to restrict foreign nationals from teaching or studying at Harvard, prompting Harvard to update its lawsuit with additional claims against the administration's actions. The judge's temporary restraining order instructed the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department to disregard Trump's order, emphasizing that the president's actions were perceived as a vendetta against Harvard rather than a genuine concern for national interests. Harvard argues that Trump's demands are not related to protecting Jewish students from antisemitism but rather an attempt to exert control over the university's governance, curriculum, and student body.
