Activist Joshua Wong Chi-fung Faces New National Security Charge in Hong Kong

Hong Kong's national security police have filed a new charge against activist Joshua Wong Chi-fung, alleging that he conspired with former lawmaker Nathan Law Kwun-chung to collaborate with foreign forces five years ago. Security was heightened around West Kowloon Court as Wong, 28, arrived in a prison van. According to the charge sheet, Wong and Law planned to incite foreign sanctions, blockades, or other hostile activities against Hong Kong and mainland China between July 1 and November 23, 2020. They also aimed to disrupt the formulation and implementation of laws or policies by the central and Hong Kong governments, potentially leading to serious consequences. The prosecution requested a two-month adjournment for further investigations, and Wong, dressed in a navy blue polo shirt, did not enter a plea or apply for bail. The next hearing is scheduled for August 8.
