Tragic Incident Involving Seven-Year-Old Boy Fatally Struck by Car Leads to Parents Facing Charges

The tragic incident involving a seven-year-old boy who was fatally struck by a car while crossing the street with an older child has led to the parents facing charges of involuntary manslaughter. The boy was hit by a Jeep Cherokee driven by a 76-year-old woman in Gastonia, North Carolina. The incident occurred outside a crosswalk, with the child and a 10-year-old boy walking unsupervised at the time.
The child sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, where he later passed away. Following the incident, the parents, Jessica Ivey and Samuele Jenkins, were charged with felony involuntary manslaughter, felony child neglect, and misdemeanor child neglect. Their bond was set at $1.5 million, and they are currently in custody in Gaston County Jail.
The initial investigation revealed that the children were unsupervised when the boy was hit by the car. The parents are being held accountable for their responsibilities to ensure a safe environment for their children. There is no evidence suggesting that the driver was speeding or violating traffic laws at the time of the accident. The boy's parents identified him as Legend in an interview before their arrests, mentioning that the child with him was his older brother.
The family had been in a food line near their home shortly before the tragic accident occurred. The parents have not entered a plea to the charges yet, and their legal representatives have refrained from commenting on the case at this early stage. The community mourns the loss of the young boy and hopes for justice to be served in this heartbreaking situation.
