Violent Custody Exchange Incident at Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Administration Building in Florida
A custody exchange involving four children turned violent when a family member unexpectedly arrived and shot the father in Florida. The incident occurred at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office administration building in Largo during a scheduled child custody exchange. Rogerio Nascimento, accompanied by his sister, and his estranged wife, accompanied by their four children and a friend, were conversing in the parking lot when the shooting took place. Nascimento's daughter, Gabriella Nascimento, arrived and shot him with a semi-automatic firearm. Rogerio sought help in the sheriff’s administration building while Gabriella was taken into custody.
Rogerio Nascimento sustained serious injuries from the shooting and was hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Gabriella Nascimento was charged with attempted first-degree murder. The motive behind the shooting was not disclosed, but it was reported that an argument ensued when Rogerio Nascimento smoked in front of a child with a medical condition aggravated by smoking. Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri condemned the violent act, stating that the daughter was frustrated with her father's behavior.
