Unveiling the Identity of Pinellas County John Doe 1993: The Story of Edman Eric Gleed

After being unidentified for over three decades, the man known as "Pinellas County John Doe 1993" has finally been identified as Edman Eric Gleed by the Clearwater Police Department. Gleed, who was 84 years old at the time of his death, was reported missing by his son in Fairfax County, Virginia. His body was found near the Clearwater Pass bridge in Florida on November 29, 1993, with a neatly folded pile of clothing discovered nearby.
Initially, an autopsy of Gleed's body did not determine the cause of death, but foul play was ruled out. The medical examiner's office described the victim as a white male between 60 and 80 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 118 pounds, with short gray hair and blue eyes. Despite the lack of identification, the police were able to work with forensic investigators to identify Gleed through DNA testing and investigative genetic genealogy services.
The Moxxy Forensic Investigations team, in collaboration with law enforcement, traced DNA matches to individuals with connections to England, which was unexpected given the location of the discovery in Florida. By delving into ancestral records dating back to the mid-1700s, the team was able to establish a possible identity for the man. Subsequent DNA testing with Gleed's son confirmed the parent-child relationship, leading to the official identification of the body.
Clearwater police were able to provide closure to Gleed's family, particularly his 94-year-old son living in North Carolina, by confirming his identity. Deputy Chief Michael Walek expressed satisfaction in providing answers to the family after years of uncertainty. The Moxxy team, deeply invested in the case, expressed their honor in reuniting Gleed with his family and bringing the long-standing mystery to a close.
