On this day in history, a tragic event unfolded in 1989 as Chinese troops violently suppressed a pro-democracy protest in Tiananmen Square, resulting in numerous casualties. In 1812, the U.S. House of Representatives declared war against Britain, and in 1919, the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was approved, granting women the right to vote. Fast forward to 1940, the Allied forces successfully evacuated over 338,000 troops from Dunkirk during World War II.
