Contreras' legal representation, the New York Legal Assistance Group, argues for his immediate release, stating that detaining him after a mandatory immigration hearing could discourage others from accessing the court system. This practice of detaining migrants after court hearings was a tactic used during President Donald Trump's mass deportation efforts. The American Friends Service Committee Florida highlighted that arrests often occur immediately after a person's case is closed or dismissed.
