Man Sentenced to Nine Years for Sexual Assault and Recording Incident in Oregon
A man has been sentenced to nine years and three months in prison for sexually assaulting his then-girlfriend and recording the act on her phone, according to Oregon officials. The 28-year-old was convicted of first-degree sodomy and first-degree sexual abuse, as reported by the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office in a news release on June 3. The man's identity is being protected to safeguard his former girlfriend's anonymity. Prosecutors stated that the man forced his intoxicated girlfriend into oral sex in 2020, with the jury determining that she was mentally incapacitated and physically helpless at the time and unable to consent. The girlfriend's mother discovered the recording, leading to a report to law enforcement and the man's subsequent indictment in 2021. After being located in Arizona, he was brought back to Oregon for trial and sentencing.
During the sentencing, Lincoln County District Attorney Jenna Wallace expressed concerns about the man's refusal to take responsibility for his actions and the harm he caused. The man's only statement to the court before sentencing was, "I'm already damned, so smite me." The incident took place in Lincoln County, which is situated in western Oregon and includes the city of Newport.
