Ford Recalls Nearly 500,000 Older Explorer Models Over Door Trim Safety Concern

Ford is issuing a recall for nearly 500,000 older Explorer models due to a safety concern related to the door trim detaching while driving. The affected vehicles are from model years 2016-2017, with production dates between June 11, 2015, and April 19, 2017. The issue was first identified by Ford in 2019 but was not initially deemed a significant safety risk. Following reports from vehicle owners earlier this year, Ford investigated the problem, leading to the recall. The company determined that a lack of proper adhesion was causing the trim to loosen, but no accidents or injuries have been reported as a result of this defect.
Ford will begin notifying owners of the affected vehicles on June 9. Once a solution to address the faulty part is identified, owners will receive instructions to bring their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership for the necessary repairs, which will be done at no cost to the owners. The recall number assigned by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is 25V347, while the manufacturer's recall number is 25S53.
