Deadmau5's $55 Million Deal with Create Music Group: A New Chapter in Music Industry Evolution

Deadmau5 recently shared his thoughts on the $55 million deal with Create Music Group, where he sold his extensive catalog. In an interview with Billboard Canada, the producer, whose real name is Joel Zimmerman, expressed that it was the right time to part ways with his catalog. This includes over 4,000 songs, including hits like “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff,” “The Veldt,” and “Strobe,” as well as the mau5trap label's catalog, which he founded in 2007.

The deal not only encompasses deadmau5's own music but also the works of artists signed to mau5trap, such as Rezz, Lamorn, Spencer Brown, Tinlicker, Rinzen, and Kx5, a collaborative project with Kaskade. Deadmau5 mentioned that while he believes Create Music Group will profit from the deal, his focus is on reinvesting in production for the future and continuing to create new music without any significant changes to his creative process.

The agreement with Create Music Group also involves a joint venture to release upcoming recordings from deadmau5 and mau5trap. Additionally, Create Music Group will handle the remastering and re-release of key elements from the catalog, introduce exclusive new content, and explore opportunities for licensing and brand partnerships to expand the reach of mau5trap to new audiences. This collaboration signifies a new chapter for deadmau5 and his label, promising exciting developments in the music industry.
