Unraveling the Mystery: The Case of Jeanie Childs' Murder

[!CDATA[A gruesome murder took place at a Minneapolis apartment complex in 1993, where 35-year-old Jeanie Childs was found brutally stabbed to death. The crime scene was chaotic, with blood spatter all around, and a rare clue in the form of bloody bare footprints left behind by the killer. Investigators were intrigued by the footprints as Childs was wearing socks when she was killed, indicating that the perpetrator had stepped in her blood after the murder. The footprints were carefully documented and photographed to aid in the investigation. The footprints were a crucial piece of evidence in the case, as they helped clear individuals who might have been under suspicion and pointed towards the real killer. Investigators compared the footprints to various individuals, including Arthur Gray, who lived with Childs at the time of her murder. Although a hair found on Childs' hand matched Gray, his alibi of being out of town during the weekend of the murder was solid. Forensic analysis of Gray's footprints also ruled him out as the source of the bloody footprints at the crime scene. Years passed without any breakthrough in the case until 2015 when forensic testing revealed an unknown DNA profile present on several items collected from the crime scene. This discovery led investigators to explore investigative genetic genealogy, which eventually pointed them towards businessman Jerry Westrom. By obtaining a DNA sample from Westrom at his daughter's hockey game in Wisconsin, investigators were able to confirm that his DNA matched the unknown profile from the crime scene. In February 2019, Westrom was arrested for the murder of Jeanie Childs. Despite denying any involvement in the crime during his police interview, his footprints were collected for comparison to the ones found at the crime scene. The case of Jeanie Childs' murder, which had remained unsolved for decades, finally saw a breakthrough with the identification and arrest of Jerry Westrom as the perpetrator.]]
