"Mount Vernon Youth Basketball Coach Arrested for Sexual Conduct Against a Child"
[!CDATA[A prominent youth basketball coach in Mount Vernon, Dwayne Murray, has been arrested and charged with felony first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child. Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace emphasized the seriousness of the charges, stating that there is no criminal conduct more reprehensible than sex crimes targeting children. Murray, 62, was arraigned on a felony complaint and remanded to the Westchester County Jail pending further proceedings. The complaint alleges that between October 1, 2023, and March 1, 2024, Murray engaged in multiple acts of sexual conduct with a child under 13 years old, including at least one instance of oral sexual conduct. The District Attorney's Office received a tip about the troubling conduct on April 12, leading to an investigation that involved interviewing witnesses and analyzing electronic devices belonging to the victim. During a press conference, Cacace revealed that text messages exchanged between Murray and the victim indicated discussions about performing oral sex on the victim. Investigators obtained search warrants for Murray's cellphones and are currently examining the devices for further evidence. The DA urged any potential abuse victims to come forward and share their stories through the tip line provided by the office. If convicted, Murray could face up to 25 years in prison. The case is being investigated by the DA Office's Hi-Tech Unit and the Special Prosecutions Division, with Senior Assistant DA Charlotte Gudis leading the prosecution. Murray is scheduled to appear in court on June 4. The District Attorney emphasized the importance of fully investigating any claims of abuse and ensuring the safety of victims in such cases.]]
