"Federal Judge Orders Release of Indonesian Man Detained by Immigration Officials"
[!CDATA[A federal judge in Minnesota has ordered immigration officials to release an Indonesian man, Aditya Harsono, who was detained for allegedly overstaying his student visa. Harsono has been held at the Kandiyohi County Jail since his arrest by ICE agents in late March. The judge ruled that Harsono's detention violated the First Amendment and ordered his immediate release. Harsono, who is married with an infant child, is set to be released within 48 hours after his family posted a $5,000 bond. He believes his arrest was in retaliation for his participation in protests following the death of Daunte Wright in 2021. Harsono entered the U.S. legally in 2015 on a student visa and was in the process of obtaining a green card before his visa was revoked. His attorney argued that his misdemeanor conviction for vandalism is not a deportable offense. Harsono's lawyers also claimed that he was targeted for his social media posts supporting causes like "Free Palestine" and "Black Lives Matter."]]
