"Lightning Strike at La Barben Zoo: Safety Tips and Updates"

[!CDATA[A zoo in the Bouches-du-Rhône département in southern France was struck by lightning, injuring several visitors, including four children, according to the local fire department. The incident occurred at the La Barben zoo near Salon-de-Provence, with 15 people sustaining injuries. Emergency responders, including 46 firefighters, were dispatched to the scene. Thirteen of the injured individuals, including the children, were treated as "relative emergencies." The lightning strike took place in a flat, open area around 2:50 pm, with one of the injured individuals reported to be of German nationality. Fortunately, no animals were harmed, and the zoo's infrastructure remained intact. The incident coincided with a yellow weather warning issued by Météo France for thunderstorms in the region. While lightning strikes may appear rare, they result in 10 to 20 fatalities annually in France. In the event of a thunderstorm, it is advisable to seek shelter indoors. If indoors is not an option, it is recommended to avoid water, open spaces, trees, and tall objects. Stay safe during thunderstorms to minimize the risk of lightning-related injuries or fatalities.
